The Arizona Monsoon Season

Each year from about August 1st through the first week of September,
Arizona has what they call a "Monsoon" season. During this about 5 week period
the state gets hit with Thunder, Lightening and Rain. Almost everyday there will
be a storm somewhere close to your place. Each night I could see the lightening
and hear the loud thunder. Most of the time you wont receive any rain, but then
there is the time it does rain. Here are the pictures of that night we did get the
rain. According to my John Deer rain gauge, we received 3 1/2 inches of rain in
about a 4 hour stretch. Both of the vehicles in the picture were stuck and couldn't
get out for about 4 days BUT, then we got another monsoon storm and got another
1 1/2 inches of rain. We got almost our years supply of rain in two storms. Many
times the monsoon is preceded by a massive dust storm. The dust storm is so intense
that if you are driving the only thing you can do is pull off the side of the road,
park and turn your engine off so the dust and dirt doesn't clog it up and get inside
the car. It truly is a scarry event that you wont forget. Enjoy the pictures of the
infamous Arizona Monsoons.

At least our road out is high ground.
