As long as I can remember, my family has been involved in sports. With Dad being a coach, we were all brought up being very athletic. As I look back upon my involvement in sports, I have many great memories of the teams and the team-mates. As I sit and reflect upon the years I was involved in athletics, I am going to have a page for each of the teams so that if you would like to see pictures or other things about that team you can enjoy them as much as I am remembering as I go through my scrape book. Linden Grade School As I grew up in Nebraska, my first real sports involvement was with the Linden Grade School 5th and 6th grade teams. As 6th graders, we were the undefeated champions of basketball. When I have returned to Nebraska for reunions, I have ran into Coach Pat Murphy who guided us to that perfect season. Boy did we think we were hot, well we actually were. On my last trip to Nebraska, I actually went back to Linden and walked the gym. Brought back some fond memories of some of my best friends. Take this fast trip back to 1960 grade school and enjoy. Fremont Junior High School Have you ever dreamed of being on a team that goes undefeated... "That Perfect Season". Our 9th grade Junior High Team was just that. We had a great team that truely played as a team. That is why we were so good, that and most of us had played together since grade school. Take a Flash-Back to 1962-63 as you read the Fremont Guide and Tribune articles of each game. As I read through each game it was almost as if I was playing them again. Jeff and Jon bringing the ball down court, Bob setting a low pick for me as I moved along the base-line, then Jeff flipping the ball to me for a quick jumper from the outside. SWISHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I can still hear it, that sound that only a clean swish will make as it passes through the net - not hitting the rim. We became the best of friends during our young days. We became Undefeated Champions of the Junior High School League. Enjoy the articles, I got chills running up my back as I read them, closed my eyes and could almost see the games being replayed. GO BABY TIGERS !!!!!!! Having moved to California as a Junior in High School, I had to begin over to show the coaches that I did know how to play the games. At the time we moved to Salinas, I can tell you this..... the players I grew up with in Nebraska were far better players than those I not only played with but played against in California. From a Tiger to a Viking ! GO VIKINGS ! As I graduated from NSHS, I spent the nest 2 years at Harnell College in Salinas. From a Tiger to a Viking to a Panther! GO Panthers !
